Number of days on the river: 150
Favorite river(s): Sandy, Clackamas, McKenzie, Deschutes, Fall, Metolius, Rogue
Favorite fly and why: 14 Bead head Prince Nymph. No matter the conditions of time of year, I always seem to get bit on this fly.
What KORKERS product do you wear? Hyjack water shoe, Fisherman's Moc and Darkness wading boots.
What one item would you never head to the river without? Besides the obvious?: Man, tough question. Too many things come to mind, but the one item that comes to mind is my fishing license. I have a bad habit of forgetting it in the truck so that is the one item I always make a point to not leave behind!
Favorite music to take along: My iPhone and the several Pandora stations I have. Nothing makes a long hike to the hole go quicker than some good tunes while enjoying the scenery.
Your most comical fishing memory/story: When I was in high-school, I took a friend out fishing for shad in my drift boat. He had not done much fishing, so I set him up with a simple diver and dick-nite setup. When he was not looking, I cut the hook off of his dick-nite. In the following 30 minutes, he missed at least a dozen fish because of the lack of a hook on his lure! He finally reeled in to see there was no hook and said, “a shad bit my hook off!” I couldn’t stop laughing for the rest of the day!
Interesting Facts (fishing or non-fishing): I have helped put on two USO/AFE tours in Iraq and Kuwait that culminated with a tournament for the troops in Saddam Hussein’s private palace lakes in Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom. These two tours were the most humbling and extraordinary experiences of my life. Nothing will ever be able to compare to the time I spent with the troops and the ability to give them a taste of home by doing a little fishing.
Catch you're most proud of: I have reached a point in my angling career where the size or rarity of a fish does not excite me. What I aim to do each day on the water is to learn a new presentation, lure or technique that is not commonly used. I become proud of each bite, landed or not, in which I was able to manipulate the fish into reacting.
