April Vokey

Business Name (Outfitter, Lodge, Employer): Fly Gal Ventures

Website or Blog address: www.flygal.ca

Number of years guiding: 4 (paid, and close to ten without compensation)

Number of days on the river: An average of five days a week, depending on the season or how many days I'm stuck in an airport.

Favorite river(s): Wild BC Northern rivers

Favorite fly and why: Pink and Blue Sugar Pop (Intruder variation). It pulses in the water, I can change the trailer hook when it dulls, it looks hot as it obnoxiously swims through the current, it looks hot before it's swinging obnoxiously through the current.

What KORKERS product do you wear? Predators. They're sick!

What one item would you never head to the river without? Besides the obvious?: My Fish Pond waist pack full of even more things that are obvious. Oh, and chap stick.

Favorite music to take along: Corrine Bailey Rae, Jill Scott and Erykah Badu

Your most comical fishing memory/story: Hmmm. Most comical?
I'll remember after this profile is posted...

For now it would have to be while we were in Iceland and the guys messed with my rod while I wasn't looking. They turned my reel upside down, made a mess of my line through my guides and swapped my fly. I had a camera in my face and was trying to play it cool. Could have sworn I was losing my mind...

Countless pranks, men yelling at me off the river and to get back in the kitchen where I belong, hilarious stories with my best bud and fishing pup Colby, falling off cliffs, leaking pontoons, getting stuck in the river in the dead of the night... I could go on forever.

Interesting Facts (fishing or non-fishing):
1) It can take between two to five pounds of feed to feed one pound of farmed salmon (zero respect here).

2) We as fly-fishers stand in the river and wave a pole through the air. Where any ego can come from this, I will never understand.

3) Sometimes during an "office day" I'll walk around in heels just to try and remember what it feels like to be a girl.

Catch you're most proud of: 40+ inch wild and perfect BC steel.

Favorite type of fishing : ( Steelhead - Salmon - Trout) Steelhead/Atlantic Salmon
